A Kiss in Time Alex Flinn Books
Alex Flinn is a great Author! Along with Beastly this book A Kiss In Time, is amazing! Eventually I will buy the rest of Alex's books to my collection. Including the (Kendall Chronicles) Her books are all about Modern Fantasy. Which seem to be my favorite genre right now. I definitely recommend this book to all preteens and teenagers, and young adults who love these spin-offs of classic princess stories and fantasy, and romance. One of the VERY BEST book right here. ♥ ♥ 😍Tags : Amazon.com: A Kiss in Time (9780060874193): Alex Flinn: Books,Alex Flinn,A Kiss in Time,HarperTeen,0060874198,Fairy Tales & Folklore - Adaptations,Fantasy - General,Romance - General,Blessing and cursing,Blessing and cursing;Fiction.,Family life - Florida,Fate and fatalism,Miami (Fla.),Princesses,Princesses;Fiction.,Witches,Witches;Fiction.,Children: Young Adult (Gr. 7-9),Fairy Tales & Folklore - General,Fantasy & Magic,Fiction,Social Themes - Adolescence,Traditional stories (Children's Teenage),YOUNG ADULT FICTION,YOUNG ADULT FICTION Fairy Tales & Folklore General,YOUNG ADULT FICTION Fantasy General,YOUNG ADULT FICTION Social Themes General (see also headings under Family),Young Adult Fiction Fairy Tales & Folklore Adaptations,Young Adult Fiction Romance General,Young Adult FictionFantasy - General,Young Adult FictionSocial Themes - General (see also headings under Family)
A Kiss in Time Alex Flinn Books Reviews
It's no secret that Ms Flinn is re-telling sleeping beauty. Her story is so much more though, not the least of which is a social study of today's society. She cleverly writes and engages readers of all ages. For avid and mature readers this is a fast read but packed with thought provoking scenarios. Though the plot is impossible, Flinn makes it seem plausable. For careful readers (young teens) there is a party scene with drinking involved, but I felt it was well written with accurate natrual consequences.
This was a cute story and an original and interesting plot idea, but I really didn't like this book all that much. I really had high expectations, but execution fell a bit short.
I felt like the characters weren't fully developed - they simply weren't very believable. More importantly, their love story (the main focus of the novel) wasn't very believable. I felt that both Talia and Jack's looks were focused on a bit too much. The comments about their physical looks might not have been so bad though if there was a bit more to go on though. Talia is supposed to be blessed with gifts from fairies, but I felt like the fairies may have messed up a bit.
I also felt like the dialogue was a bit stunted. Talia was supposed to sound like she was from a past time (300+ years prior), but instead she sounded forced and unnatural. Jack's dialogue sounded much more natural, but it still was a bit odd.
I absolutely adored this book! I've read it many times now and anyone who likes romance would love this book. It even has comedy and peril so it will keep you wanting to read more and more. Even though it totally doesn't need one, I loved the book so much I almost want it to have a sequel. You'll love the characters and how a princess from the 17th century is exposed to 21st century activities and luxuries. Definitely worth reading
Very fun read!
I loved this book when I was still in high school, but now I realize that there is not a lot of suspense. The beginning starts so slow and drawn out and the end feels rushed and anticlimactic.
A Sleeping Beauty Retelling
I couldn't wait to get my hands on this book. I love Flinn's Beastly and when I heard that the author was writing another fairy tale retelling, I had to have it.
Princess Talia of Euphrasia was always protected and never allowed to go anywhere because of one little curse at birth. If she was to touch a spindle, she would fall asleep, along with the rest of the kingdom, until she was awoken by true love's kiss. Just before her 16th birthday, she was looking for gowns for her birthday celebration when she was lured into a tower and met an old woman. There she pricked her finger and fell asleep. Fast forward to present time and we have Jack, a 17 year old, bored by his forced traveling tour of Europe. He grabbed his friend and they sneaked off and finds themselves in a sleeping village. Entering the castle, they explore and happened upon a sleeping Talia. Jack felt the urge to kiss her and did so, awakening a dormant kingdom and whole host of new adventures.
This was a charming story. It was a light read and quickly finished. Each chapter is divided into first person narration of Jack's and Talia's. I didn't find this is as deep as Beastly (where you can actually read the hero's struggle), but it fits with the characters of the story. Talia, at first, was annoying. I thought she was spoiled, but as you continue reading, she slowly evolves and you can't help but feel sympathy for her. Jack is your typical American guy, who likes to party and appears shallow. Through Talia, he thought less of himself and more of the people around him. I found that they did fall in love rather quickly, but then again, they are young. The ending was okay.
Even though I didn't like this as much as I did Beastly, it's definitely worth a section on my bookcase.
I loved the way Alex Flinn made the princess sleep for 300 years so that she was awoken by a cool dude from present times. It gave the opportunity to explore different parenting styles (the princess's father is over the top in his fury at all his trading partners having disappeared in the last 300 years) and also in styles of manners. The narrative alternates between the viewpoint of the princess and that of her rescuer. Flinn doesn't present the usual boring alternative to a demure princess - namely a rude aggressive young woman - but the princess finds herself on a steep learning curve as she finds that her assumptions about royal privilege just don't work anymore. Similarly the young man has to grow up and learn new ways of looking at his family and at life. There is a lot of pleasant humour. I found the interest level was maintained from start to finish in this fascinating new working of an old tale.
