The Hookup The Jordan Brothers eBook Erin McCarthy

This was not a typical romance and I liked it because of that. Cain is a highly functional alcoholic and he has a reason for being the way he is and he isn’t going to change himself. He goes to work everyday on time and gets drunk every night. He meets Sophie, a super smart woman who is home for her sisters wedding. She is socially awkward and has no filter and is looking to finally get rid of her virginity and Cain looks like the perfect hookup. When a one night stand turns into a no strings relationship, they both can’t seem to stay away from each other even though they couldn’t possibly work out. She has a life several hours away and he is a self destructing alcoholic. I really enjoyed it, both characters sort of normalized each other in a way. Sophie is often judged and made fun of because of how smart she is but Cain never makes her feel anything less then normal. Cain has a lot of personal things happening and it’s making him want to numb his emotions with alcohol but Sophie never judges his reasoning for doing so. They better each other without even trying, just with the simple acceptance and eventual love they feel for one another. I can’t wait to read about the next Jordan brother!

The Hookup The Jordan Brothers eBook Erin McCarthy Reviews

Is there an equation for the perfect hookup? Turns out it’s a lot more complicated than one plus one

Sophie is working on a PhD in mathematics at Harvard but she is in Maine for her sister Bella's upcoming wedding. While there she decides it is time for her to lose her virginity and hook up with some random stranger. Cain is a local lobster fisherman who spends his time in the local bars drowning his feelings in alcohol and hooking up with women.

Cain spots Sophie while she is out with her sister celebrating in a local bar and feels an attraction to her. Sophie gets her wishes and hooks up with Cain, but is one time going to be enough for these two?

I adored Sophie, she is not used hooking up or anything relationship wise. She speaks her mind and she is extremely literal. Cain, well he has had a rough go in life. His girlfriend and his identical twin both betrayed him, it shattered him. Sophie and Cain are truly opposites of each other but there is something so beautiful about their relationship and their connection.

“But you’ve saved me too. Because you’ve given me something no one else has—total acceptance. You don’t see my issues as issues.”

I couldn't put this story down, I was hooked from the very beginning. I can't wait to read book two and learn more about Bella and Christian.
The Hookup by Erin McCarthy is the first book in The Jordan Brothers series. I must admit that I read the second book in this series first (I received an ARC), but I liked the second book so much that I went back and read the first book. This was a fun read with great chemistry between the two main characters. The writing and character development was well done. This was a great start to a promising series, even if I did read this book second.
Talk about opposites attracting, WOW, Sophie is a math genius working toward her PhD. Cain is a high school graduate who is very happy being a “lobster fisherman”. Sophie is looking for the right guy to rid her of her V-card, Cain just happens to be up for the task. I really loved the dynamics between these two characters. They did have a rough start and I enjoyed the ups and downs in their relationship. The author was able to show the reader the unpleasant side of Cain, but in such a way that made me like him all the more. I immediately liked Sophie, she was a breath of fresh air, strong, intelligent, with a bit naivety throw in to make her just adorable. I would definitely recommend this series if you are looking for a fun read with some heat. Happy reading.
Sophie Bigelow is my new favorite heroine. She’s beyond nerdy straight into the genius stratosphere, complete with social ineptitude, careful analysis and blatant honesty. It provides for quite the interesting premise when she decides that at twenty-five years of age with only one gay boyfriend on her resume, it’s time to lose her virginity. Of course, this is a carefully thought out, scientific decision. After her sister, Bella, glams Sophie up (not being privy to that critical piece of the plan) they head to a bar in a coastal Maine town where Bella’s wedding is scheduled to take place in a couple of weeks. Sophie sees Cain sitting at the bar and targets him to fulfil her objective, but at first glance, it's the beautiful, fashionable Bella who catches Cain’s eye. After a short time of observing Sophie's peculiarities and social awkwardness, he sees something unique and refreshing, and he's intrigued.

Erin McCarthy has been a favorite author since I read the first book in her Fast Track series, so I jumped at the chance to read an early copy of this book, and she definitely delivered with this one. Cain was such a tortured hero who had made a big hot mess of his life, but there was something about him I couldn’t help but love. Maybe it was viewing him through Sophie’s eyes, but I could see there was a goodness in him, buried deep under the anger, resentment and alcohol. It was brutally apparent his road to redemption would be painful, but Sophie's logical, literal, guileless way of looking at life was just what he needed. Although Sophie had utmost confidence in her intelligence, she never felt like she fit in or belonged, so Cain's accepting her just as she was, OCD tendencies, quirks and all, was exactly what she needed.

With the humor and heat I’ve come to expect from McCarthy, this book also had a vast amount of emotion to tug the heartstrings. As different from each other as Sophie and Cain seemed, they had messed up family dynamics in common, and there was just something so sweet and endearing about the two of them and their relationship. And although this was a fairly typical plot and storyline, Sophie's character and personality made it feel fresh and unique with her delightful reasoning and enchanting honesty. This one is definitely a 1-Clicker, and I can’t wait to read the next book, The Breakup!
